Jaroněk’s shelter (formerly known as the Mědínek shelter) was built in 1925 near the main wall of Štramberk Castle, on the site of a building that was known as the ‘Upper Castle Palace’. The shelter was designed by the painter Bohumír Jaroňek, who was inspired by typical features of local folk arts and crafts.

As well as being a ticket office for the castle, until recently the shelter was also a snack bar. However, in April 2010 all catering services on the site were moved to Dr. Hrstka’s cottage, and Jaroněk’s shelter now houses a gallery of folk arts and crafts. You can admire beautiful items made by local craftsmen – wood-carvers, blacksmiths and bee-keepers, as well as hand-made paper, pottery, beeswax, hand-crafted soaps, wool products, and semi-precious stones in various forms. Of course, all of these beautiful items can be purchased.

Jaroněk’s shelter also houses a ticket office where you can buy tickets for the tower, plus a wide range of souvenirs from Štramberk and the Wallachian Kingdom.
